Identity and analytical relevance

Acetamiprid-N-desmethyl is a metabolite and environmental degradation product of acetamiprid. EFSA refers to it as IM-2-1. It must not be described as though it were the parent insecticidal active substance.

  • CAS Registry Number: 190604-92-3
  • Molecular formula: C9H9ClN4
  • Molecular weight: 208.65 g/mol

EU residue and health-assessment context

Commission Regulation (EU) 2026/876 applies a specific residue definition to products of animal origin, except apiculture products: the sum of acetamiprid and N-desmethyl-acetamiprid (IM-2-1), expressed as acetamiprid. This is important when selecting analytes for residue methods; it is not a general limit for IM-2-1 on its own.

In its 2024 scientific statement, EFSA proposed a revised risk-assessment residue definition for fruit, fruiting vegetables and leafy vegetables: the sum of acetamiprid and IM-2-1, expressed as acetamiprid. For pulses and oilseeds, root crops and cereals, the risk-assessment definition remained parent acetamiprid. EFSA did not propose changing the enforcement definition for plant products from parent acetamiprid.

The same EFSA statement proposed lowering the acceptable daily intake and acute reference dose for acetamiprid from 0.025 to 0.005 mg/kg body weight because of uncertainties in the developmental-neurotoxicity evidence. These health-based guidance values apply to the acetamiprid risk assessment; they are not toxicity thresholds for an isolated IM-2-1 laboratory standard.

Available HPC reference materials

The current HPC range covers neat material (item 679642, 10 mg), a 10.0 µg/mL solution in acetonitrile (item 681207, 10 mL) and a 100 µg/mL solution in acetonitrile (item 683040, 1 mL). Select the concentration and format required by the validated analytical procedure and use the certificate supplied with the individual lot.
