Glyphosate Isopropylamine Salt Certified Reference Material
Glyphosate isopropylamine salt (CAS 38641-94-0) is available as a 10 mg certified reference material. Regulatory decisions for glyphosate must not automatically be presented as salt-specific classifications.

Identity and analytical relevance
Glyphosate isopropylamine salt is the isopropylammonium salt of glyphosate. It has a different CAS Registry Number and molecular mass from glyphosate acid. Analytical calculations should therefore follow the assigned value and chemical form stated on the certificate rather than treating the salt and parent acid as numerically interchangeable.
- CAS Registry Number: 38641-94-0
- Molecular formula: C6H17N2O5P
- Molecular weight: 228.18 g/mol
EU approval status for the active substance glyphosate
The EU approval concerns the active substance glyphosate, CAS 1071-83-6. It was renewed from 16 December 2023 until 15 December 2033 under Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2023/2660. Only herbicide uses may be authorised, and use as a desiccant to control harvest timing or optimise threshing is prohibited. Individual plant-protection products still require national authorisation.
Health and hazard assessment status
EFSA's 2023 peer review of glyphosate did not identify a critical area of concern across the representative uses, but it documented data gaps and assessments that could not be finalised, including parts of the consumer dietary and aquatic-plant assessments. In 2022, ECHA's Committee for Risk Assessment retained the classifications for serious eye damage and long-lasting aquatic toxicity and concluded that the available evidence did not meet the criteria for classification as carcinogenic, mutagenic or toxic for reproduction.
That carcinogenicity assessment is under review. Following publication of new animal-study data in 2025, the European Commission asked ECHA and EFSA to evaluate whether the findings affect the earlier conclusions. ECHA opened a targeted consultation in March 2026, and its Risk Assessment Committee began discussing the study in June 2026. No final updated opinion was published by the review date of this page.
These EU assessments concern glyphosate as the active substance. Product-specific handling and hazard information for the isopropylamine salt reference material must be taken from its current safety data sheet.
